Malki was just 15 when she and a friend stopped for a lunchtime pizza in the Sbarro Restaurant in Jerusalem and was standing right next to the bomber when he blew himself up on August 9, 2001. Malki was among 15 people killed in the suicide bombing, whilst 130 were injured.

The attack was orchestrated by Ahlam Tamimi a member of Hamas. Tamimi was sentenced to 16 life terms in prison but was released in a 2011 prisoner exchange and now resides in Jordan, where she has lived freely and even hosted a television show.

Malki’s father Arnold has consistently urged U.S. and international authorities to pursue her extradition to face charges in the United States.

Hallels tragic story motivated me to tell the stories of Jewish victims of Terrorism after learning there were thousands of victims in Israel.
